Insights into early cell life

Artists' impression of single cells
Differences between cells can have significant effects during early life and in the early stages of disease

New technique that elucidates how different types of cells are made, could facilitate earlier detection of diseases

Scientists in the Stegle and Marioni groups, in collaboration with scientists at the Babraham Institute and University of Edinburgh, have developed the first single-cell analysis method that allows simultaneously analysis of nucleosome, methylation and transcription. scNMT-seq allows researchers to analyse differences between single cells that could play key roles in both the early stages of life and the first stages of diseases such as cancer.
